The Richard Mille RM 53-01 Tourbillon Pablo Mac Donough is an exceptional high-performance timepiece created in collaboration with professional polo player Pablo Mac Donough. Introduced in 2018, the RM 53-01 was engineered specifically around the extreme shocks and impacts encountered during professional polo. Richard Mille produced the model as a limited edition of only 30 pieces.

At the heart of the watch is the RM53-01 manual-winding tourbillon calibre, displaying hours and minutes. One of its most distinctive technical features is the cable-suspended movement architecture. The central movement plate is suspended inside the case using two braided steel cables measuring approximately 0.27 mm in diameter, routed through a system of 10 pulleys and secured by four tensioners. This unusual construction is designed to help the movement withstand significant shocks.

The watch is housed in a distinctive Carbon TPT® tonneau-shaped case, a material selected by Richard Mille for its combination of lightness, strength and resistance. The layered Carbon TPT® construction also gives the case its characteristic technical appearance.

Another major innovation is the watch’s laminated sapphire crystal. Rather than using a conventional single sapphire crystal, the RM 53-01 uses two sapphire layers separated by a thin polymer film. This construction was developed to absorb extreme impacts while preventing the crystal from shattering, protecting the highly sophisticated movement beneath.

The skeletonised movement is highly visible through the transparent dial, creating the signature mechanical aesthetic associated with Richard Mille. The combination of the exposed tourbillon architecture, blue accents, Carbon TPT® case and blue rubber strap gives this particular configuration an unmistakably sporty and contemporary appearance.

The RM 53-01 is more than a traditional luxury watch.
