Description
The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is one of the most recognizable high-performance chronographs in modern watchmaking. This configuration combines an understated black dial with contrasting steel-coloured chronograph counters, a black Cerachrom ceramic bezel, and a robust Oystersteel Oyster bracelet.
At the heart of the design is the Daytona’s signature tachymetric scale, integrated into the black Cerachrom bezel. The scale allows average speeds to be measured using the chronograph function, reinforcing the model’s long-standing connection with motorsport and high-performance driving. Rolex states that the tachymetric scale can measure speeds of up to 400 miles or kilometres per hour.
The 40 mm Oyster case is crafted from Rolex Oystersteel, a highly corrosion-resistant steel alloy developed by Rolex. Its polished and brushed surfaces create the distinctive contrast associated with the Oyster case architecture.
The black dial provides a strong, highly legible foundation for the applied hour markers and three chronograph counters. Rolex’s Chromalight display provides long-lasting blue luminescence in low-light conditions.
Powering the watch is Rolex’s Calibre 4131, a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement. It provides a power reserve of approximately 72 hours and is certified as a Superlative Chronometer, combining official chronometer certification with Rolex’s own certification after casing.
The watch is completed by the iconic Oyster bracelet, featuring solid three-piece links and an Oysterlock safety clasp with Easylink 5 mm comfort extension. The screw-down crown and Triplock waterproofness system contribute to the watch’s robust everyday construction, with Rolex specifying water resistance to 100 metres / 330 feet.
