Description

The Richard Mille RM 35-02 Rafael Nadal represents the brand’s distinctive approach to high-performance mechanical watchmaking, combining advanced materials, an open-worked movement and a highly technical tonneau-shaped case.

At the heart of the watch is the RMAL1 automatic calibre, developed specifically for the Nadal collection. The movement features hours, minutes and seconds together with a variable-geometry rotor, allowing the winding characteristics to be adjusted according to the wearer’s activity. The movement is fully skeletonised, giving an unobstructed view of its mechanical architecture through the sapphire crystal.

The case is constructed using Richard Mille’s advanced Quartz TPT® technology, with the red version created from extremely thin layers of quartz fibre and resin. The layers are oriented at alternating angles to create the distinctive striated appearance while maintaining an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. Richard Mille states that the material was engineered for high resistance and can withstand accelerations of up to 5,000 g.

The combination of the black textured case, vivid red inner bezel and matching red rubber strap gives this particular configuration an aggressive and unmistakably sporty character. The large tonneau-shaped case and exposed movement further emphasize Richard Mille’s signature architectural aesthetic.

Inside, the RMAL1 uses a variable-inertia balance wheel operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, together with a double-barrel system designed to provide greater torque stability. The movement’s bridges and baseplate are produced from grade 5 titanium and treated using PVD/Titalyt® techniques for enhanced rigidity and durability.

The RM 35-02 was created as an evolution of the earlier Nadal models, responding to demand for a self-winding mechanism within the Nadal collection. Its combination of lightweight construction, shock resistance and automatic winding makes it particularly aligned with the athletic philosophy behind the Rafael Nadal series.
